Veterans, scouts, marching bands and Little Leaguers are set to take part in the Merricks’ annual Memorial Day parade, which is scheduled to kick off on Monday, May 30, at 9:30 a.m. The parade will begin at Veterans Broadcast Plaza between Merrick and Brooklyn avenues in Merrick. The procession will head north on Merrick Avenue to Veterans Monument at Lee Avenue, where a ceremony will be conducted. Merrick American Legion Post 1282 will once again host the parade. The Bellmore Little League hosted its annual Memorial Day Weekend Girls Fastpitch Tournament at Newbridge Road Park, and coming out on top in its division was the U12 Blue Fire squad from Bellmore, which defeated the Diamond Dolls from Pelham Bay in the Bronx to take the championship. The Bellmore Little League thanked Dan Lino and Sammy Akiel from Newbridge Park for maintaining the fields throughout the weekend. more
