With a Ph.D. in Anthropology from City University of New York Graduate Center and years of management experience at companies including Chase Manhattan Bank, AXA Client Solutions and Guardian Life Insurance Company, Golob turned to the non-profit sector, now serving both as the Long Island Index’s director and an enthusiastic player in the challenge to better Long Islanders’ knowledge of their region. more

Three seats up are up for grabs between five candidates in this year’s Merrick School District Board of Education election. Of the candidates, Susan Schwartz and Nancy Kaplan are seeking reelection, and challengers Dr. Pamela Banks, Segal Negrin and Eric Strezenec are vying for their first term on the board. The three candidates who earn the most votes in this at-large election will each win a three-year term on the board. The vote will take place Tuesday, May 15, from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Levy-Lakeside Elementary School. more

The Merrick-Bellmore Community Concert Association has been a staple of the community since the early 1950s. It’s now winding down its 58th season, and it will begin the 2012-13 season, its 59th, in September. But if the organization is to make it to its 60th season, it may need a significant boost in attendance, said President Mark Manas. more
