A group of 16 Baldwin karate students used their legs for more than kicking last week. The energetic youngsters ran a 1-mile obstacle course that snaked through CitiField, home of the Mets, and included the playing surface and other areas normally off-limits to non-players.

Elmont lost several key players from a boys’ lacrosse team that finished with an overall record of 9-6 and a 3-5 mark in conference play. The Spartans, who missed earning a playoff berth by a single power point, have been up and down, thus far, in non-league games in 2013.

Even on a gloomy day, about 260 runners took part in the annual Spartan 5K race at Valley Stream North High School the morning of March 16. The race began at the school track and continued through the streets of Franklin Square before returning to North.
