Since 2002, the Village of Cedarhurst has hosted a 9/11 ceremony in Andrew J. Parise Cedarhurst Park, honoring those who died in the terrorist attacks who lived in the Five Towns or nearby communities: Thomas E. Jurgens, Neil Levin, Kevin O’Rourke, Bettina Browne Radburn, Joseph Rivelli Jr., Howard Selwyn and Ira Zaslow.

On Feb. 26, 1993, terrorists detonated a 1,336-pound nitrate-hydrogen bomb in the underground parking lot of the World Trade Center’s North Tower, intending to send the structure crashing into the South Tower, destroying both buildings.
Merokean Aram Iskenderian was there that day, working as a bond broker high atop New York City in Cantor Fitzgerald’s corporate headquarters, on the World Trade Center’s 101st to 105th floors.

I awoke at 3:45 a.m. on Sept. 30, and by 4:35 I was on a train speeding from Merrick to Penn Station. At 6 a.m., I stood at Liberty and West streets in Lower Manhattan, near 1 World Trade Center.
