The upset winds were blowing all over the Nassau County Class A boys’ basketball tournament last week, with the top three seeds all falling on Feb. 18. However, that wasn’t the case the following day in the AA bracket when each of the top four seeds advanced, including No. 2 Elmont thanks to a 69-62 victory at home over No. 10 Massapequa.

Despite a remarkable effort, the Rocks fell just short of a trip to the Nassau County Class B title game with a heartbreaking 72-66 triple overtime loss in the semifinals to No. 2 Wheatley at LIU-Post last Saturday night. Senior Kevin Blessington scored a career-high 25 points and pulled down 14 rebounds for East Rockaway.

East Meadow found itself in a tough spot last Saturday, as it traveled to Baldwin for a Conference AA-II boys’ basketball makeup game. On top of facing the Bruins, unbeaten in conference play and the two-time defending Nassau County Class AA champions, the Jets were forced to hit the floor without point guard Cody Zafrin, who missed the game because of an injury.
