September was pediatric cancer awareness month, and Rockville Centre-based group the Life for Gina Foundation continued its work to help affected families. The third annual Golfing for Gabi fundraiser was the most profitable yet, with residents hitting the Rockville Links on Sept. 23 and raising $80,000 for brain cancer research. The event is named in for Gabi Pellicani, who died of brain cancer in 2018, at age 5. The activities included golf, dinner and a silent auction. Over the past three years, the outing has raised about $200,000 for Boston’s Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, where Gabi was treated. more

For the past six months, the Aguilar family of Glen Cove has been dealing with a harrowing challenge: pediatric cancer. Ryan Aguilar, 17, a junior at Glen Cove High School, was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, a rare form of bone cancer, last November. To show support and raise his spirits, relatives, friends and neighbors organized a car parade past the Aguilar home on Doxey Drive last Saturday morning. more
