A group of local fifteen-year olds struck gold at the national roller hockey championships in California in mid July, winning the Pee Wee Silver National championship. The players, from Lynbrook, East Rockaway, Malverne, Rockville Centre and Freeport, as well as their coach from Valley Stream, all flew out to San Jose, CA to participate in the North American Roller Hockey Championships as the Long Island-based Tour Roadrunners 1995 travel roller hockey team.  more
Lynbrook Little Leagues 10 year old Williamsport All-Stars won the Long Island District 30 championship last week, beating the Oceanside Americans, 7-2. The 10 year old all-stars won the district finals with an overall record of 4-1 in the double elimination district tournament.   more
In a dramatic finish, the Valley Stream Little League’s senior division team held on for a win and captured the District 29 championship last week. The team beat Floral Park 13-12 on July 14 and now moves on to the Section 5 tournament. more
