Students spread holiday cheer
Santa Claus isn’t the only one giving out gifts this year. Students from Jonas Salk Middle School and MacArthur High School in Levittown are giving back in a big way this Christmas and holiday season. By running toy drives during the month of December, students are able to provide presents for children and families in need in the community. more

“Make a highway and clear a path for the Lord,” is a verse from the book of Isaiah, that the Rev. Robert Hayden, 70, connects with on a deep level. After years of service to St. William the Abbott Catholic Church in Seaford, Hayden, was elevated by Pope Francis to monsignor on Dec. 6. After 45 years in the church, Hayden has traveled far down that highway, with many stops along the way. more

Members of the Seaford Wellness Council and Seaford American Legion Post 1132 set up dozens of American flags in front of the Seaford train station last Saturday morning to create the Field of Honor, an annual tradition in the community in commemoration with Veterans Day.

The Seaford Wellness Council spearheaded the installation of its annual Field of Honor in front of the Seaford train station on Nov. 7. It consists of dozens of American flags, which are placed there for most of November to coincide with Veterans Day. more
Juliet Rafanelli, who sings opera and attends W.T. Clarke High, will perform next February in Boston with the most talented singers in the region. Elton Ha, of East Meadow High School, named after Elton John, will perform at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville this month, and at halftime of the nation’s premier high school football game at the Alamodome in San Antonio next January.

The East Meadow School District’s music program will be well represented across the country in the coming months, as two students with very different musical backgrounds will showcase their talents on grand stages. more
