Hempstead Town Hall was the site of a three-hour battle last Wednesday over variances sought for a proposed three-story Sunrise Senior Living facility at Atlantic and Terrell avenues in Oceanside. Just as the Adult Day Program at the Glen Cove Senior Center was regaining momentum, it was hit with an unexpected force of nature, necessitating the temporary closure of the program for the second time in a little over a year. Hurricane Ida flooded the lower level of the senior center, where the program takes place, on Sept. 2, and three weeks later, staff and members alike are still dealing with the aftermath.
