At a recent town hall meeting at the Valley Stream Village Hall, present were many residents of Valley Stream and adjacent communities affected by the changed flood maps instituted by FEMA. As is fairly well known at this point, these maps took areas of Long Island’s South Shore with no prior history of floods and categorized them as high risk areas. more

South Corona Avenue resident Tony Iadevaio made a valid point that perhaps some accommodation has to be made for residents in addressing pre-existing conditions before the new local law is passed because the proposed law would hold residents liable for damage to their curbs as well as sidewalks (“Curb law gets curbed,” May 20-26). more

That your publication prints an occasional letter from Mr. Richard Creeron is, to me, worth the price of the subscription. He has the rare ability to briefly use well-reasoned discourse to reach a rational, if not popular, conclusion on issues of importance. more
