The Washington Avenue Kindergarten Center held a Thanksgiving feast last Wednesday afternoon. Students from the three classes gathered in the school’s all-purpose room to sing a few songs and enjoy a hearty lunch.

With the sun burning down at midday, it was a hot one on June 24, well past the 90-degree mark. The parched infield at Merrick Road Park in Merrick turned into a mini-dust bowl whenever a play was made in the double-header between the Floral Park Knights and the Glen Cove Cobras.

I don’t know how they do it, but the prognosticators at the Farmers’ Almanac were right again this winter. Back in August, they predicted a winter of “numbing cold” and “record-breaking” snow.

The two teens accused of attacking a man outside his home in the village’s west end in early July have been cleared of all charges. Last week, a grand jury dismissed the case against 18-year-olds Jimmy Blaise and Domineek Washington, both of Valley Stream.
