The Hendrickson Park administration building will no longer house Valley Stream’s recreation department. Three feet of water in the building during a heavy rainstorm on Aug. 14 has prompted village officials to move the department to the Firemen’s Field clubhouse and seek other uses for the 45-year-old building.

The Water Authority of Western Nassau County's drinking water warning was lifted on July 22, around 6 p.m. The authority announced the warning on July 20 for residents of North Valley Stream, Elmont, Floral Park, Franklin Square, New Hyde Park, Stewart Manor and Garden City, following a distribution sampling of a restaurant near N. Fletcher Avenue and Dutch Broadway in North Valley Stream on July 18, which tested positive for E. coli.

When firefighters wash down their trucks after making on a run, they may have to pay a fee on that water. Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano, a Republican from Bethpage, has proposed a water use fee in the county’s 2011 budget. At a news conference in front of the North Merrick firehouse on Friday, Nassau County Legislator Dave Denenberg said the fee is really a tax.
