The Village of Malverne honored lifelong resident George Scheer on June 1 as Norwood Avenue was renamed Firefighter George Scheer Way. Scheer, who died last year at age 47, fought fires with the Malverne Fire Department for nearly 30 years, and had been a member of FDNY Engine Co. 249 in Brooklyn since 2003. Scheer’s wife, Fara, behind her daughters, Lexi, in white, and Gabbi, helped dedicate the new street sign.
