Big, blue canvas bags labeled “Little Anne” and “Baby Anne” sat at the entrance to the Merrick Avenue Middle School gymnasium last Thursday. Spread across the shiny wooden floor in neat rows were mannequins, a.k.a. dummies. And in a corner, physical-education teachers Art Canestro, Mallory Cogen and Jason Dove were showing a film that revealed the secrets to saving a life with only your hands and mouth to a class of eighth-graders.
Soon the students were kneeling before the mannequins, pumping the dummies’ chests with their locked hands and breathing into their plastic mouths.

The seventh annual Robbie’s Run was the biggest ever, attracting 1,700 runners between its three races. That’s 200 more participants than ever before, said Jill Levine, founder of Forever Nine–The Robbie Levine Foundation, which sponsors the event.

More than 1,700 runners and walkers took to the streets of south Merrick on May 22 for the sixth annual Robbie’s Run, which has quickly become one of the Merrick-Bellmore community’s go-to events. In total, the event raised $48,000.

On Feb. 3, Doug Oggeri suffered a massive heart attack after shovelling snow. Thankfully, his 18-year-old daughter, Colleen had learned cardiopulmonary resuscitation through the Police Athletic League.
