When they passed the trophy to their teammates, the boys couldn’t help breaking into a dance in celebration of the squad’s continued success. more

The Mepham High School varsity cheerleading squad recently placed first in the Universal Cheerleaders Association’s Northeast Regional Championships, earning the team a spot in the Small Varsity Coed Division in the national championships in Orlando, Fla., in February. more
Sara Rosenzweig, a freshman at SUNY Geneseo, was recently named the SUNY Athletic Conference’s first-ever Rookie Cross-Country Runner of the Year. The SUNY conference comprises 10 schools across the state. Above, Rosenzweig running at the Atlantic Regional Championship on Nov. 16.
Merokean off to a fast a fast start at Geneseo
In her years at Kennedy High School in Bellmore, Merokean Sara Rosenzweig grew accustomed to finishing first among Cougar cross-country and track runners. She twice qualified for the New York State High School Cross-Country Championship, and ended her high school career last spring by capturing the Nassau County steeplechase title. more

The Sacred Heart seventh- and eighth-grade girls' soccer team was the runner-up for the 2013 Nassau County Championship title. The squad ended the regular season undefeated and in first place before falling to St. Dominic's of Oyster Bay in the championship game 2-1 on Sunday.

The Sacred Heart Catholic Youth Organization seventh-/eighth-grade girls’ soccer team was the runner-up for the 2013 Nassau County CYO Championship title. The championship game was played at Town Park in Merrick on Sept. 17. Sacred Heart fell to St. Dominic’s of Oyster Bay 2-1 in the match. more

Kennedy volleyball repeats as L.I. champs
Pick a number, any number, and it’s sure to be an impressive one with regard to Kennedy’s boys’ volleyball team. Want championships? The team captured its second consecutive Long Island Class B title last Saturday with a sweep of Sayville (25-23, 25-18, 25-20), just three days after winning its fifth Nassau County championship in the last six seasons with a three-set win over Long Beach (25-16, 25-22, 25-23). more

The North Bellmore-North Merrick Little League’s 9- and 10-year-old girls’ travel softball team, the Lady Rebels, are this year’s state softball champions in their age division. Not only that, but they finished the season in third place in the entire Northeast. more

The Bellmore-Merrick Cougars sixth-grade travel basketball team recently won the Division 1 Super League Championship in double overtime, 60-59. It was the first time that a sixth-grade team took the Super League crown. more
