More than 400 Stewart Manor Elementary School 4th, 5th and 6th-graders ran the school’s 1,200-meter “Prediction Marathon” from the Stewart Manor School to the Stewart Manor Country Club last Friday. During the race, pre-kindergarten to third-grade students dressed in pink and cheered them on with pink pompoms.

I am nothing if not trendy. On Oct. 7, I underwent surgery for breast cancer following a diagnosis two weeks earlier. It is, after all, Breast Cancer Awareness Month. I wouldn’t think of having cancer any other time of the year.

Nearly 1,000 local residents attended the Rock Out Cures a benefit concert on Sept. 24 at the Plattduetsche Park Restaurant in Franklin Square. A total of $35,000 was raised — a record amount for the annual event — for the American Cancer Society, the Wounded Warrior Project and the Long Island branches of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and Food Allergy & Anaphylaxis Network.
