Congratulations to the members of the Red and Blue teams on another successful production. In its 96th year, the competition is still a great showcase of the participants’ incredible talents. As we approach the event’s 100th anniversary, however, I believe that now is the time for us to reflect on whether continuing such an event in today’s day and age is still appropriate. I realize that even suggesting that we re-examine the merits of Red and Blue will provoke a deep-seated and visceral reaction among many residents of our village. Let me be clear: I am not necessarily calling for an end to Red and Blue — just that this village engage in an open and frank discussion about the event. more

"Boy Meets World” was a great show. Seriously, I looked forward to it every week. ABC’s T.G.I.F. lineup on Friday nights was awesome. “Boy Meets World” was my favorite of those Friday night shows. One character in particular was special to me — and to most people in my age group — and that was Mr. Feeny. more

Most of the women in the room, now in their 80’s, were in their teens or early 20’s during World War II. But these senior ladies, residents of Maple Pointe Assisted Living at 260 Maple Ave., had vivid memories of wartime. Those memories were brought to light on May 25 during the first meeting of Maple Pointe’s Red Hat Society, an informal ladies-only club that seeks to bring together common interests and vibrant memories. more
