The Kennedy High School girls’ soccer team came together on Sept. 17 in support of Children’s Cancer Awareness Month. After an early-morning practice, all 23 players met at Salon Envy in Merrick and purchased Streaks of Sunshine hair extensions, with proceeds going to the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Metro New York. The extensions are $10 each.

Merrick residents Connie Reilly and Heather Schmidt recently achieved Girl Scouts’ highest honor, the Gold Award.
To earn the honor, they each performed 65 hours of volunteer community service, developing action projects and promoting acts of kindness and goodwill.
