When I was kid, I spent most sunny spring days at Cedar Creek Park. I’d ride my bike there with my family, play on the playground with my friends, and enjoy rolling down the verdant hills. Something I remember distinctively about the park was a certain sour smell that was always in the air.

About 120 people got on their bicycles and hit the pavement on Sept. 13 for the first Bruce Pye Memorial Bike Ride, which began at Cedar Creek Park. The group traveled down the bike trail along the Wantagh Parkway, before heading east.

Under-utilized land at the Cedar Creek Water Treatment Plant could be used for a solar energy project. Nassau County is proposing to enter into a 20-year lease agreement with SunEdison Origination 1 to construct, operate and manage a three-megawatt solar energy project on 12.5 acres of land at the Water Treatment Plant, which abuts both Wantagh and Seaford.

A $2.5 million building materials lab could be built near the Cedar Creek Waste Water Treatment Plant in Seaford to test nontoxic materials used in Nassau County road projects. Cedar Creek is one of two possible sites. Cantiague Park in Hicksville is also under consideration.

I had been pedaling for an hour and a half when I stopped cold. The view, quite simply, stunned me.
It was 8:30 a.m. on Aug. 22, and I was three-quarters of the way through a bike ride up and down the asphalt path that runs along the Wantagh and Ocean parkways, from Nassau County’s Cedar Creek Park, in Seaford, to the Town of Oyster Bay’s Tobay Beach Park, in Massapequa. The entire ride, from Cedar Creek to Tobay Beach and back, was 17.6 miles.
