Dozens of friends and schoolmates from Rosedale, Queens and beyond got together at Cedar Creek Park on August 6 for their annual reunion picnic. The get-together is in its 30th year. The crowd, who either attended P.S. 138, J.H.S. 231, or Springfield Gardens High School, meets yearly for fun, food, drink music and reminiscing. Many still live on the south shore communities of Oceanside, Lynbrook, East Rockaway, Rockville Centre, Valley Stream and Baldwin. more

County continues to truck sewage through Merrick

Trucking of raw sewage from Nassau County’s Bay Park treatment plant in East Rockaway to a pumping station on Merrick Road in Merrick is continuing as the county works to fix mechanical problems at the Bay Park plant, said Bill Fonda, a state Department of Environmental Conservation spokesman, in an interview on Thursday. more

U.S. Sen. Charles Schumer said on Tuesday that the Environmental Protection Agency is releasing $11 million to repair the aging Bay Park Sewage Treatment Plant in East Rockaway, among other projects.

U.S. Sen. Charles Schumer announced on Dec. 21 that the Environmental Protection Agency plans to release $11 million in grant money awarded to Nassau County in the mid-1980s as a reimbursement for $20 million in upgrade work done at the Bay Park and Cedar Creek sewage treatment plants at the time. more

The Nassau County Department of Public Works is shipping raw sewage from the Bay Park treatment plant in East Rockaway to this pumping station on Merrick Road in Merrick. The sewage is then piped to the Cedar Creek treatment plant in Wantagh. The plan is a temporary fix for mechanical problems at Bay Park.
