Late summer is a musical time throughout the area. The Long Island Philharmonic visits Eisenhower Park for a delightful evening of popular classics on Friday. Over at Long Island Children's Museum, The Silly Dilly Band entertains kids of all ages with their musical hi-jinks, along with a theatrical adaptation of the popular Dora the Explorer television series, on Sunday.

Despite the on-and-off-again rain showers during the B-52’s concert at Eisenhower Park on Aug. 6, thousands attended the show. The B-52’s, who have been misconceived as British, actually formed in Athens, Georgia in 1976, and garnered wide popularity in the late 1970s and 1980s.

Long Island troubadour and anti-hunger activist Harry Chapin died in a crash on the Long Island Expressway 30 years ago. On Monday evening, Long Island musical artists gathered at East Meadow’s Eisenhower Park to perform a concert and food drive in tribute to the late singer-songwriter, playing his songs for the cause to which he was dedicated.
