Merrick Kiwanis offering family film for Sandy victims
The Merrick Kiwanis Club will host a special movie morning for families impacted by Hurricane Sandy. The family-friendly film will be “Escape from Planet Earth” and will be shown at Merrick Cinemas on Monday, Feb. 18. Doors will open at 9:30 a.m. for a 10 a.m. show time. more
Peninsula Kiwanis lends a helping hand to several local organizations throughout the year and in emergencies such as Hurricane Sandy. At the Five Towns Early Learning Center in Inwood, Frank Mistero, Dominic Cura, Frank Basile and Kevin Cooney handed out Christmas gifts to the children, along with Center Executive Director Pepper Robinson.
Dedicating themselves to the community
The day after Hurricane Sandy struck Long Island, members of the Peninsula Kiwanis Club were cutting downed trees, coordinating efforts to get generators to the Five Towns and reaching out to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to have food and water sent to the community they cherish. more

Elementary school students from six Merrick schools — Birch, Levy-Lakeside, Chatterton, Old Mill Road, Fayette and the Progressive School of Long Island — recently participated in a Scrabble tournament at the Merrick Library. The tournament is run annually by the Kiwanis Club of Merrick. more

Nassau County Strawberry Festival draws a crowd in North Bellmore
For the past 25 years, the Nassau County Strawberry Festival has drawn crowds of local families to Bellmore for games, fun and, of course, strawberry delicacies. The festival, hosted by the Bellmore Kiwanis and Lions clubs, has grown to attract crowds from across Nassau County, and drew thousands of people last weekend. more
