Noah Rubin, an 18-year-old Merrick tennis star, won a Wimbledon championship last month, but that alone was not enough to propel him into this month’s U.S. Open. A tennis court victory on Sunday in Kalamazoo, Mich., however, netted Rubin the U.S. Tennis Association’s Boys 18s National Championship and secured him a berth in the Open.

In just hours he would attend the Wimbledon Champions Dinner at the glittering Royal Opera House in London’s Covent Garden, where he would meet Wimbledon men’s champion Novak Djokovic, the world’s No. 1 tennis player.

After a mediocre first half by Calhoun’s standards, the Lady Colts turned things up a notch from a 4-2 start and stormed into the Nassau County playoffs on a six-match winning streak and playing their best badminton of the season.
