Sandra Quinn from Hewitt Elementary School is both an avid skater and ballet and jazz dancer who has been studying since she was two at the Maple Avenue Dance Center. Sandra won the PTA Reflections Award of Excellence for Dance Choreography — the highest award in New York state — and she'll go on to the national competition.
Rockville Centre students rise to the top with beautiful reflections
Sandra Quinn, a Hewitt student in Irma Altman’s third grade class, will go on to the national level in the PTA Reflections Program — a first for the school. She is one of a handful of Rockville Centre students who rose to the top in the national competition that encourages students to creatively express themselves with an original piece from one of six categories: literature, visual arts, photography, dance choreography, film production or music. more

Pirrone's life work honored through words
The memory of former administrator Diana Pirrone will be kept alive for many years in District 24. On May 26, Friends of Bridge presented the first set of awards to students in the Diana Pirrone Memorial Essay Contest, which is expected to become an annual tradition. more

Two South Side Middle School students spearheaded a food drive contest sponsored by 92.3 FM radio. The school that collected the most amount of canned foods would win a school concert by the young heartthrob, Justin Bieber. more

Cheating in school has been a problem across the country for generations, and Hewlett High School senior Shira Shamir decided that finding the root cause of academic dishonesty would make for an interesting social science research project. Shamir surveyed 202 of her fellow students, and got some interesting answers to her questions about how some of them justify cheating, whether on a test or copying a homework assignment. more
