Merrick Fire Department volunteers were called to extinguish a house fire that gutted a first-floor kitchen on Oakbrook Lane in Merrick on Friday. Volunteers knocked down the blaze in 15 minutes, containing it to the kitchen, but the rest of the house suffered water and smoke damage. Merrick firefighters were assisted by volunteers from the North Merrick, North Bellmore, Bellmore and Freeport fire departments. more
