With two veteran Hall of Famers with ties to Rockville Centre looking on, First Sgt. Thomas Seifert of East Rockaway was selected by Sen. Dean Skelos (R-RVC) to be inducted into the New York State Senate Veterans Hall of Fame. Seifert, one of the youngest recipients of the award, was honored at a ceremony on Aug. 19 at the East Rockaway American Legion Post, where he is a member. more

The Baldwin Police Activity League’s Blue Devils basketball team, an AAU team in the 17u class, won the New York Regionals and went onto place second in out of 68 other teams at the Nationals in Orlando, Florida. “All the boys on this team were picked from our intramural program and have worked very hard this season,” said Ron Trimboli, president of the Nassau County P.A.L. Baldwin division. “We are very proud of these boys and their coaches.” more
Dozens of concerned homeowners, parents, teachers and residents from East Rockaway, Lynbrook and Hewlett crowded Monday night’s village board meeting in East Rockaway to address a troubling situation: groups of teenagers — sometimes as many as 50, by some accounts — who are drinking and vandalizing homes near Waverly Avenue and Durland Road in the southwestern corner of the village. more
