Hofstra University's alumni theater company returns to the stage with Stephen Sondheim's look at contemporary life and relationships. Other weekend higlights include the Gilbert and Sullivan Light Opera Company's annual gala concert and the Riverhead Foundation's winter seal cruises.

There's plenty of action on local stages this weekend. Nassau Community College students perform Eric Bogosian's "Suburbia," while Plaza Theatrical Productions stages it's holiday confection, A Fairy Tale Winter" and Lynbrook pianist Jeffrey Biegel performs a benefit for Sandy victims.

To gain back four days of instruction from the eight lost due to schools being closed after Hurricane Sandy, the Hewlett-Woodmere School District announced at their Nov. 20 Board of Education meeting that the February winter break will be eliminated.

There weren’t many snowmen, snow angels, snow forts, snowball fights or snow days this winter on Long Island, which means the people who plow, salt and sand the roads in Valley Stream haven’t had as much weather-related work as they did last winter. And as of this week, it’s officially spring.
