More than 100 women gathered at Baldwin Park on Mother’s Day for the fifth annual Run Like a Mother 5K, a community-focused run and walk designed to promote wellness, connection and self-care. Organized by Baldwin resident Sophea Sainsurin, the event has grown from just 15 participants in 2022 to 105 this year, bringing together mothers, daughters, friends and supporters for a morning centered on resilience, encouragement and personal well-being.

Award-winning author Katie Yee joined Baldwin Public Library readers on May 13 for an intimate discussion of her debut novel, “Maggie; or, A Man and a Woman Walk Into a Bar,” sparking conversations about identity, motherhood, illness and belonging. Nearly 20 participants attended the afternoon book club meeting, where Yee shared insights into the acclaimed novel and listened as readers connected its themes to their own experiences.

Baldwin High School seniors Mia Smith and Fahiem Jenkins were recognized by Assemblywoman Judy Griffin during her annual Student Standout Awards Ceremony, which celebrates students across Assembly District 21 for leadership, character and contributions to their school communities.
