The Baldwin Union Free School District has appointed André H. Poprilo principal of Baldwin High School, effective July 1.

Poprilo, who served as the district’s director of fine and performing arts for more than 11 years, brings more than two decades of experience in education as a teacher, building administrator and district leader to his new role.

“It is truly an honor to serve as the next principal of Baldwin High School,” Poprilo said in a release sent to the Herald. “Having been part of the Baldwin family for the past 11 years, I have seen firsthand the extraordinary dedication of our students, staff, families and community.

“I look forward to building on our strong tradition of excellence by ensuring every student feels connected, challenged and supported while expanding opportunities that prepare them to be ‘future ready,’” he added. “Together, we will continue to create a learning environment where every student can discover their passions, reach their full potential and graduate prepared for success in college, careers and life.”

Before joining the Baldwin district, Poprilo served as district coordinator of fine arts, performing arts and foreign language for the Wappingers Central School District in East Fishkill. He also served as assistant principal and district coordinator of fine and technical arts in the Copiague School District in Suffolk County. He earned a Master of Science from Touro College and both a Master of Music and Bachelor of Music from the Crane School of Music at SUNY Potsdam.

The district described Poprilo as a dedicated educational leader known for his collaborative leadership style, student-centered approach and commitment to academic excellence. During his tenure as director of fine and performing arts, he oversaw the district’s arts programs and worked with administrators, faculty and students to expand educational opportunities across grade levels.

Poprilo succeeds Neil Testa, who was appointed executive director of human resources for the Locust Valley Central School District after serving as Baldwin High School principal for seven years.
