Two Baldwin High School seniors were among 23 students recognized by Assemblywoman Judy Griffin during her annual Student Standout Awards Ceremony, which honors young people across Assembly District 21 for leadership, character and contributions to their school communities.

Mia Smith and Fahiem Jenkins, both seniors at Baldwin High School, were selected as this year’s Baldwin honorees. Each school in the district was invited to nominate up to two seniors who have made a lasting difference through their actions, initiative and character, according to Griffin’s office.

The ceremony, held in Rockville Centre, brought together students, families, educators and community members to celebrate high school seniors from public and nonpublic schools across the district. Honorees were recognized for qualities including leadership, kindness, inclusiveness, helpfulness, strong work ethic, creativity, civic engagement and determination. The awards also highlighted students with talents in music, dance, theater, the arts, STEAM, writing, language, debate and mentoring, as well as students whose contributions are not always recognized through traditional academic or athletic awards.

“I was truly honored to recognize the incredible slate of 2026 Student Standout Honorees for Assembly District 21,” Griffin said. “I am grateful for the positive impact so many young women and men continue to make in our school communities.”

Griffin said the annual ceremony gives her office a chance to shine a light on students whose service, empathy, perseverance and leadership have helped shape their schools. She also congratulated parents for the support and encouragement they have given their children.

Students were honored for taking initiative in team settings, mentoring or supporting classmates, excelling in extracurricular activities, striving academically, athletically or in the arts, and helping create more inclusive and welcoming school environments.

Other honorees represented schools in East Rockaway, Freeport, Hempstead, Lynbrook, Malverne, Oceanside, Rockville Centre, Uniondale and Valley Stream.
