Baldwin High School’s Mathletes team recently showcased its academic talents at the annual Nassau Math Tournament at Hofstra University, where 22 students represented the district in a day of challenging competition.
The students competed in three events — grade-level competitions, Mathletics and a team challenge — alongside more than 600 student mathematicians from across Nassau County.
The team is led by advisors Stacey Levine and Rina Adams, who praised the dedication of the students.
“The Mathletes are extremely dedicated and work incredibly hard, and we are honored to serve as their coaches,” Levine and Adams said.
Through the Mathletes Club, students regularly participate in competitions across Long Island, solving complex math problems in timed environments that encourage teamwork and critical thinking.
Senior Luna Questelles earned special recognition, placing among the Top 20 seniors in Nassau County for individual scoring.
“Opportunities like the Nassau Math Tournament allow students to apply their mathematical thinking in meaningful and competitive ways,” said Jamie Abbi-Handler, mathematics supervisor for grades 6-12. “Luna’s top 20 finish is an outstanding achievement, and the entire team represented our school with enthusiasm, confidence and academic excellence.”
Baldwin High School Principal Neil Testa also commended the students’ efforts.
“So proud of our Baldwin Mathletes! This proves that we are strong not just in body and spirit, but in mind as well,” Testa said.
