Intramural Night returns to BHS

In 2012, Hurricane Sandy postponed Baldwin High School’s Intramural Night causing some students to drop out. In 2013, the event wasn’t held due to budget cuts. But in 2014, BHS students renewed the decades long tradition once again.

The seniors took home first place during the event held last Saturday that featured aerobics, stunts and dance routines. Art teacher Meredith Kurz coordinated the night and said it was good to have it back.

This Intramural Night was different than previous years as seniors and sophomores joined forces while juniors and freshman did the same for the stunts and dance routines. Kurz said that because the event wasn’t held last year, there were fewer students who signed up. In all, 150 took part in this year’s contest.

This was the 69th Intramural Night in Baldwin after it was started 70 years ago. Kurz said it is a part of the school’s culture. She has coordinated the event for 12 years and took part in it herself during her four years as a BHS student.

The students will now look forward to Sportsnite, which will feature hundreds of students, in March.
