To celebrate the return of Baldwin native and NASA astronaut Jasmin Moghbeli to Earth earlier this month, members of the Baldwin Fire Department and students from Lenox Elementary School gathered outside the school playground on March 22 for a video and message to her.

Moghbeli, along with three other astronauts, launched on August 26 and concluded their half-year expedition at the International Space Station, returning on March 12.

Born in Bad Nauheim, Germany, she graduated from Baldwin High School. She served as an officer in the United States Marine Corps in 2005 and trained to become an AH-1 Super Cobra Pilot. She became a NASA astronaut in 2017 after being selected in the Astronaut Candidate Class.

Despite Moghbeli not being in attendance, members of the community showcased their appreciation for their hometown idol.

‘We all gathered to send this video and photo message to her, showing how proud Baldwin is of her with NASA and her outstanding career with the United States Marine Corps,’ Jerry Brown, a Baldwin firefighter, wrote on Facebook.
