Giant smiles, sugary surprises, and overflowing bowls of goodies filled the room as families gathered for a sweet evening at Little Legacy Learning Center’s Candy Wonderland celebration. Held at 881 Merrick Road on Friday, Oct. 30, the festive Halloween gathering offered a welcoming space for neighbors to connect.
Roughly 60 people attended the community event, according to owner Noni Chambers. Attendees of all ages enjoyed complimentary food, drinks, games and plenty of candy. Musical chairs proved to be a crowd favorite, bringing out the competitive side in both children and adults alike.
For Chambers, the celebration was about more than handing out Halloween treats. It was an opportunity to bring families together and provide children a safe, welcoming environment to make lasting memories.
“Me and my husband, we’re parents – we have five children together,” Chambers said. “What I noticed on Friday is that parents just want something that is safe, something that their children can have fun and enjoy that they, too, can also enjoy. That’s what we want to provide. We want to provide a safe environment for families to come, relax, have a good time, and not have to worry about anything.”
Little Legacy Learning Center adopted its new name and expanded location earlier this year, merging Chambers’ home-based Heaven’s Hand Daycare – which she has operated in Baldwin Harbor since 2019 – with her husband Damion’s former school-age program, Conduit of Change Activity Center. Little Legacy serves children ranging from 6 weeks to 12-years-old.
Candy Wonderland is one of several holiday traditions Chambers hopes to grow in the new, larger space.
Next up on the event calendar is Breakfast with Santa, scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 19, from 10 a.m. to noon. The festive morning will feature light refreshments, hot chocolate and a special photo-op visit from Santa himself.
