A blue wave swept across Long Island in Tuesday’s midterm elections. Voters focused on inflation and the cost of living.

All results remain unofficial pending the counting of outstanding ballots and certification by election officials.

U.S. Rep. Laura Gillen won re-election to New York’s 4th Congressional District, defeating Republican challenger Jeanine Driscoll. Gillen campaigned on lowering costs for Long Island families, strengthening infrastructure and public safety, and securing federal resources.

“I promise each and every one of you that I will continue to work with anyone and stand up to anyone to make life better and bring down the costs for Nassau County,” Gillen said.

Democrat Joe Scianablo is projected to defeat Republican incumbent John Ferretti in the race for Town of Hempstead supervisor.

Scianablo campaigned on reducing government waste, increasing transparency, investing in infrastructure, addressing housing affordability and strengthening public safety.

“I’m willing to work with Independents, Republicans, Democrats, of course, state, county, federal level partners to bring much-needed resources back to the town of Hempstead,” Scianablo said.

Democratic incumbent Scott Davis in the 1st Legislative District is projected to win. Davis campaigned on increasing fiscal transparency, infrastructure improvements, and strengthening relationships between law enforcement and local communities.

Democratic incumbent Debra Mulé is projected to retain her seat in Nassau County’s 6th Legislative District. Mulé campaigned on affordability, revitalizing Baldwin’s downtown, expanding affordable housing, addressing infrastructure needs and strengthening public safety.

Democratic incumbent Noah Burroughs is on track to secure another term in New York’s 18th Assembly District over Republican challenger Charlene Jackson. Burroughs prioritized strengthening public school systems, securing funding for underrepresented communities, and addressing discriminatory insurance pricing.

Democratic incumbent Judy Griffin is also projected to retain her seat to New York’s 21st Assembly District, defeating Republican challenger Irene Villacci. Griffin campaigned on lowering household costs, improving school funding, strengthening public safety and addressing aging water infrastructure.

Democrat incumbent State Sen. Siela Bynoe is projected to secure another term in the 6th Senate District, defeating Republican Matt Capp. Bynoe emphasized school funding, housing costs, and infrastructure in her re-election campaign.

Gov. Kathy Hochul also secured a second term, defeating Republican challenger County Executive Bruce Blakeman.

Hochul campaigned on lowering household costs, expanding affordable housing, childcare and strengthening public safety while opposing President Donald Trump’s policies.

“I will always partner with [Blakeman] to deliver for the people of Nassau County,” Hochul said Tuesday night. “I’m here to make a difference.”
