More than 70 people gathered at Baldwin Bowl & Lounge on April 12 for a sold-out charity event that blended friendly competition with fundraising, as Nassau Chapter No. 718 of the Order of the Eastern Star hosted its “Bougie Bowling Fundraiser.”
The event transformed the bowling alley into a lively, coordinated effort to support two nonprofit organizations while bringing together members, supporters and guests from across the Nassau-Queens-Brooklyn district. Participation was widespread, with nearly every attendee taking part in bowling, raffles or themed contests, creating an atmosphere that organizers said felt both celebratory and purposeful.
Led by Worthy Matron W. Leslie Jacobs and Worthy Patron W. Amari Daniel-Bey, the fundraiser was carefully organized to maximize both participation and impact. Additional support came from Associate Matron R.W. Rosetta Cargin and Associate Patron R.W. Martin Richards, whose experience within the organization helped guide the event’s execution and ensure a smooth flow throughout the afternoon.
Attendees embraced the “bougie” theme with enthusiasm, competing in a best-dressed contest that added a festive element. One group, Pandora’s Magic Box, won top honors with coordinated pearl accessories and formal attire, while another team earned runner-up recognition for custom-designed shirts that showcased team spirit and creativity.
Raffle prizes and giveaways kept the energy high throughout the event. The highlight came when Baldwin business owner Camelia, of C&C Quality Nails, won the grand prize — a $3,000 all-inclusive trip to the Dominican Republic — prompting an emotional reaction that drew applause and cheers from the crowd.
