The corner of Lakeside Drive and Silver Lake Place was renamed last week in honor of Terence J. Manning, a 36-year-old from Baldwin who was killed on Sept. 11, 2001. The popular father of two daughters, a computer consultant, was attending a conference in the north tower of the World Trade Center on the morning of the attacks.

“I miss him,” Manning’s father, Philip, said simply during a short, emotionally charged speech.

“The loss of Terence Manning was one that was felt by many, especially here in Baldwin,” added Hempstead Town Supervisor Kate Murray. “It is an honor to remember his life today.”

Manning grew up on Silver Lake Place, which now bears his name. When he died, he was living in Point Lookout with his wife, Megan, and their daughters, Mairead and Trinity,. Some 500 Long Island residents lost their lives in the attacks on the twin towers.
