Late summer is a musical time throughout the area. The Long Island Philharmonic visits Eisenhower Park for a delightful evening of popular classics on Friday. Over at Long Island Children's Museum, The Silly Dilly Band entertains kids of all ages with their musical hi-jinks, along with a theatrical adaptation of the popular Dora the Explorer television series, on Sunday.

Twenty-five young finalists from all over Nassau County competed in Nassau County’s “Reach for the Stars” finals Saturday at Eisenhower Park.

The Nassau County teen talent search, “Reach for the Stars,” is holding its finals July 30 at 7:30 at the Lakeside Theatre. The competition will display the talents of 25 vocalists between the ages of 13 and 19, all residents of Nassau County.

It was a scorching hot day on Long Island on July 22, but it didn’t stop hundreds of people from seeing two bands who, despite playing for nearly two decades, can still draw a crowd. The day was reminiscent of any summer in the 1990s — people were sitting in lawn chairs with coolers, listening to the Spin Doctors and the Gin Blossoms.

Long Island troubadour and anti-hunger activist Harry Chapin died in a crash on the Long Island Expressway 30 years ago. On Monday evening, Long Island musical artists gathered at East Meadow’s Eisenhower Park to perform a concert and food drive in tribute to the late singer-songwriter, playing his songs for the cause to which he was dedicated.
