An estimated $10,000 in equipment and money was stolen from W.T. Clarke High School in Salisbury the evening before classes resumed on Tuesday. The East Meadow School District announced the incident at Thursday's school board meeting.

Sometime after 5:30 p.m. on April 5, as the custodial staff worked in the gym, unknown suspects entered the other side of the building and took cash and a variety of technological equipment, school officials said. There was no sign of a break-in, they said, as staffers were already working inside the building.

According to the district, the suspects took $400 in cash from the school lunch office, and then snuck into classrooms to steal a projector, a SmartBoard, two computer monitors, a hard drive, a tower and other miscellaneous items like calculators — together worth about $10,000.

School officials said on Thursday that most of the equipment could likely be replaced with assistance from Nassau BOCES at no cost to the district.

Nassau County police are conducting an investigation. Anyone with information on this or any crime can report it anonymously at (800) 244-TIPS.
