NuHealth hosts public meeting on proposed Village for Healthy Living

Posted

NuHealth, which operates the Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow, hosted a public meeting on the proposed redevelopment of the 50-acre hospital campus.

A few community leaders attended the July 19 meeting in the NUMC auditorium, where Gina Martini D'Onofrio, a representative from the consulting firm Saccardi and Schiff, Inc., presented aspects of the Draft Generic Environmental Impact Statement for NuHealth's proposed "Village for Healthy Living."

She also answered questions from the audience on the proposal, which calls for a new ambulatory surgery center with associated medical offices that would give patients access to outpatient procedures as well as renovations and construction of new living areas to enhance its role as a teaching hospital.

All public comments were put into the record as part of the DGEIS process. The deadline for public comments was on Aug. 2. A copy of the DGEIS may be obtained at the East Meadow Public Library or by visiting www.numc.edu or www.nuhealth.net.

A new emergency department is already in the works, as well as an outpatient health clinic for veterans. Those are expected to open by the end of the year.
