According to detectives, Mejias was arrested around noon on Sept. 1 after allegedly following his 34-year-old ex-girlfriend in his vehicle in Piping Rock Road in Matinicock. He passed her and abruptly stopped, apparently causing her to stop her vehicle, police said.

Detectives said Mejias exited his vehicle and approached the woman, yelling and screaming at her. When she drove away from the scene, police said Mejias continues to follow her, but she was eventually able to elude him and then reported the incident to police.

Mejias was arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead on Sept. 2. He was charged with second-degree menacing and reckless endangerment, and third-degree stalking — all A misdemeanors that carry up to a possible year in jail. A judge set bail at $1,000 and orders of protection were issued.
