East Meadow Fire Department extinguishes fire on 8th Street

The Nassau County Arson Bomb Squad is investigating a fire that broke out at 1:30 a.m. on May 25 at a residence on 8th Street in East Meadow.

According to detectives, police responded to a report of a house fire. Upon arrival, officers were informed that three occupants — a 66-year-old man, a 35-year-old woman and a 6-year-old boy — had safely exited the home. However, a fourth resident, a 63-year-old man, was still inside.

Officers entered the home and conducted a search on the second floor, where they located the man and were able to remove him to safety.

The man was transported to a local hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation and extensive burns. He is currently listed in critical but stable condition. No other injuries were reported.

The East Meadow Fire Department responded and extinguished the blaze. The Nassau County Fire Marshal and Arson Bomb Squad were also on scene. The Red Cross was notified and responded to assist the displaced residents.

The investigation is ongoing.
