The East Meadow Volunteer Fire Department will celebrate its 95th anniversary on Saturday, Sept. 6, 2025, with a parade and block party. The department is hosting the Sixth Battalion Parade, which will feature fire departments from neighboring communities, marching bands, community organizations, antique fire trucks, and local dignitaries.
The parade will begin at 5 p.m. at East Meadow and Stuyvesant Avenues and proceed north along East Meadow Avenue to Fire Headquarters at East Meadow Avenue and Front Street.
Following the parade, the community is invited to a block party at Fire Headquarters, located next to the East Meadow Library. The free event will include food, music by “Long Island’s Premier Band” The Mystic, refreshments, a children’s fun zone with slides, jumping castles, face painting, fire prevention materials, and other family-friendly activities.
The East Meadow Fire District was established on Jan. 27, 1930, to provide fire protection to a growing community that included parts of East Meadow, Westbury and Levittown. The fire department has grown significantly since its post-World War II expansion, utilizing the latest firefighting and emergency medical technologies.
“We extend our gratitude to the community for their unwavering support,” said Commissioner William Neill, vice chairman of the board of fire commissioners. “We invite you to join us in celebrating this milestone.”
The Sixth Battalion includes ten volunteer fire departments from Bellmore, East Meadow, Levittown, Massapequa, Merrick, North Bellmore, North Massapequa, North Merrick, Seaford, and Wantagh.
The East Meadow Volunteer Fire Department is always recruiting new members. No experience is necessary, as the department provides training.
Volunteers receive numerous benefits, including tax breaks, college scholarships, and a pension program. For more information on joining, visit EastMeadowFD.com or call (516) 542-4565.
