East Meadow school budget passes

Rosenking, Fanelli beat incumbents, Danenza wins vacant seat

Voters approved the proposed $178 million East Meadow School District budget on Tuesday. In unofficial results late Tuesday night, there were 2,389 votes in favor of the budget, and 1,573 were opposed. Expenses are to rise by 1.7 percent, while the tax levy is anticipated to increase by 1.3 percent.

As for the three contested Board of Education trustee races, Jeffrey Rosenking, Corey Fanelli and Joseph Danenza won. Danenza defeated Robert Kushner by less than 100 votes, and it was too close to call until absentee ballots were counted.

Rosenking defeated incumbent Abby Rothschild-Kaplan for a three-year seat. Fanelli beat incumbent Steven Jacobs for a one-year seat. Both Fanelli and Danenza were sworn in after election results were certified.

Joseph Parisi and Marcee Rubinstein, as expected, won their uncontested races for three-year seats on the school board.

Rubinstein, Parisi and Rosenking will be sworn in at the reorganization meeting in July.
