Michael Finkelman, the chairman of the board of fire commissioners for the East Meadow Fire District, is running uncontested for re-election on Dec. 9.
A lifelong East Meadow resident, Finkelman, 60, joined the department in 1972, rising to the rank of chief, a position he held in 1991 and 1996. One of five current five commissioners, he is seeking his third five-year term on the board.
Fire commissioners oversee their departments’ finances and equipment purchasing.
- Fire Headquarters on East Meadow Avenue, for residents who live south of Hempstead Turnpike.
- Fire Station No. 3 on Newbridge Road and Carnation Road, for residents who live north of Hempstead Turnpike.
