Gonsalves to host important forum in East Meadow

Legislator to discuss Nassau's response to the growing heroin epidemic

Legislator Norma Gonsalves has announced that in conjunction with the Nassau County Police Department she will be hosting a community forum on April 7 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at East Meadow High School to discuss Nassau’s current heroin epidemic and the county’s three-pronged approach (Enforcement, Parental Awareness and Education) to combating this critical issue.
   
In addition to the meeting, Legislator Gonsalves is urging residents over the age of 18, to go through their home medicine cabinets and bring their unwanted, unused, expired and/or illicit drugs to the meeting where they will be able to anonymously and over their medications for safe disposal. 
   
Accepted medications include pain killers, tranquilizers, anti-depressants, antibiotics, over-the-counter medications, pet medications, vitamins, supplements, inhalers and more.  Drugs should be in their original containers if possible, and if not placed in zip loc bags that are labeled.   Items/Drugs that will not be accepted include: sharps (e.g. needles and syringes), IV bags, infectious waste, pharmaceutical waste not generated by households (e.g., clinics, pharmacies, hospitals, doctors, etc.), radioactive pharmaceuticals and vaccines.
