Groups deliver holiday cheer to children

EMFD plays Santa

The 2009 holiday season left little spare time for East Meadow volunteers. With the answering of 1,390 alarms in 2009, members, Explorers, and Ladies Auxiliary alike took some time away from shopping to do more for the community.

First, it was the members of Engine Company No. 2 spreading their cheer bringing Santa to many designated areas of the community much to the delight of those who waited at each stop.

Ex-Chief James Darcey, once more ran his committee of firefighters, Medical Technicians, and Santa, in their annual trip to the Pediatric ward at Nassau University Medical Center.

For months, Darcey rallied to secured the many toys donated by members putting smiles on the faces of children who have to enjoy a holiday away from home.

For weeks, the men of Hook and Ladder Co. No. 1 worked to raise money for families less fortunate.

With much shopping completed and a night of gift wrapping at Fire Station No. 1, Ladder No. 1 members paid a visit to families with many of the gifts the children has wished for.

Engine Company No. 1, raised money and used it helped local military family. Meanwhile, the East Meadow Fire Department Explorer Post 610, ran a food drive for families in need while the Ladies Auxiliary, sponsored four families — two for Thanksgiving and two for Christmas.


Knights visit pediatric patients

Nassau County legislator, Dennis Dunne, recently joined the Knights of Pythias, Mid Island Lodge No. 828 members as they deliver toys for the pediatric units of the Nassau University Medical Center. This yearly visit helps to bring cheer for the sick children at the hospital.
