Huge crowd gathers for Eagles tribute band

Hundreds of community members flocked to East Meadow’s Speno Park last Wednesday night to see a performance by the seven-piece band Desert Highway.

As part of the 2011 Town of Hempstead Free Neighborhood Concert Series, this show invited locals to “enjoy a stay at Hotel California.” The band stood in a brightly lit bandstand, and played to an audience of young and old.

Concertgoers said they found the evening entertaining.

It wasn’t only the adults who were enjoying themselves on that warm summer night; kids appeared to be having just as much of a blast, playing with glowing light-sabers, necklaces and pinwheels, climbing on the jungle gym and using the large open field to play soccer and tag.

Desert Highway played Eagles’ fans favorites from 8 to 9:30 p.m., including “Life in the Fast Lane,” “Lyin’ Eyes” and, of course, “Hotel California.” Much of the audience was dancing by the end of the night, especially when the sun went down. “Take it Easy” was Desert Highway’s last song, followed by whistling, shouting and a big round of applause.
