New year brings new music to the East Meadow library

Posted

Concerts returned to the stage on Sunday at the East Meadow Public Library. Welcoming the James Weidman Trio to the stage, fans of mainstream jazz music packed into the audience to watch the group perform.

Weidman is an accomplished pianist, composer and educator, who’s been a sideman for many artists in different settings over the years, including Abbey Lincoln, Cassandra Wilson and Grammy nominated Joe Lovano Us Five. An Ohio native, performances of his have received critical acclaim.

In the library’s auditorium, Weidman was joined on stage by his bassist, known by the name “Harvie S” and drummer Alvester Grant. The trio released the recording “Sonic Realities,” in 2023 — which demonstrates poetic pianism and more.

Nate Chinen of the New York Times said “Mr. Weidman decorates a song like many decorate the favorite room in their house — one carefully chosen piece at a time.”

Weidman holds a degree in classical piano and music education, and made the move to the jazz scene of New York. His performance in East Meadow was well received by patrons and audience members — all fan of jazz.
