Pedestrian killed on Old Country Road

A man was struck and killed on Wednesday night while crossing Old Country Road in Westbury, at the intersection with Carleton Street, adjacent to Westbury Drive in Salisbury, police said.
   
Homicide Squad detectives said they have arrested Patrick Noel, 21, of Uniondale, for Vehicular assault, after he allegedly struck the unidentified victim as he crossed from south to north of Old Country Road just before 10:18 p.m. According to detectives, the defendant, who drove a 1993 Acura sedan, is charged with allegedly driving with insufficient headlights and going above the posted 40 mile-per-hour speed limit.
   
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene at 10:18 p.m., police said, and his identity was withheld pending a positive identification by family at the Nassau County Medical Examiner's office.
   
Noel, who was charged with Vehicular Assault 3rd Degree and VTL violations of Insufficient Headlights and Speeding Exceeding Posted Speed Limit, was scheduled for arraignment in First District Court, Hempstead on Thursday, police said.
